Allegheny Building - Apartment Conversion

Pittsburgh, PA
Completed 2021

Giving new life to a historic office building in the heart of Downtown with luxury apartment homes.

Commissioned in 1906 by Henry Clay Frick and known as the Frick Annex, this elegant brick and terracotta-clad skyscraper served for decades as prime office space in the heart of Downtown Pittsburgh. As the demand for offices has waned with the emergence of remote work, this iconic structure now shines again as the luxury apartments.

Work on this project began with the comprehensive documentation of existing conditions in support of an application to the National Register of Historic Places. Great care was taken to preserve, highlight, and recreate historic details, imbuing the interiors with timeless character.

Apartment units were planned to make the most of the tight floor areas and idiosyncratic existing conditions. Gracious living spaces, modern kitchens and bathrooms, and sweeping views of the city make these apartments a valuable addition to the developer-owner’s portfolio.
